Chicken pox is currently “doing the rounds” locally. It’s a useful time to share some self care tips about how to manage the symptoms at home as most children with chicken pox don’t need to see a GP. ⏺️ encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids - try ice lollies if your child is not drinking ⏺️ give paracetamol to help with any pain and discomfort - avoid ibuprofen ⏺️ use cooling creams or gels from a pharmacy ⏺️ speak to a pharmacist about using antihistamine medicine to help itching ⏺️ bathe in cool water and pat the skin dry (do not rub) If your child has chickenpox, they will need to stay off school/nursery until all the spots have formed a scab. This is usually 5 days after the spots first appeared. For further advice see the NHS website or contact NHS111. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/chickenpox/

prioryCARE form update
High pressures
We are experiencing extremely high demand in general practice and across the NHS. To manage to urgent/same day cases safely as possible this month, we are keeping the prioryCARE form turned off over the weekend. We are trying as hard as we can to assess as many patients as we can every day, but we need to ensure we continue to provide high quality care and consider the safety of our staff when services are so stretched.
During January we are also trialling turning off the online off over night (6pm to 5am) on weekdays in line with other practices locally.
Thank you for your understanding. We continue to review this regularly and will keep our patients up to date with any changes going forward via our website and social media channels.
Edit 31st Jan - this trial has been successful in that urgent demand has reduced early in the morning so we are better able to manage both our urgent and routine workload. For the time being the prioryCARE form will only be available 5am-6pm Monday to Friday.
If you are unwell or need urgent medical advice over the weekend/weekday evening please use NHS111 or visit your local community pharmacy if appropriate.
