Today is #ReceptionistsDay and we want to celebrate both of our front of house teams - Patient Central and Patient Care Navigators. The role of a typical GP receptionist has changed massively in the last 5-10 years and both teams do a brilliant job to support our patients in different ways.
> Patient Care Navigators (previously known as receptionists) are based at surgery sites and help patients who come in to the reception desk. They can help patients who cannot go online or use the phone to access appointments, book long term condition reviews, pass on messages to patients from the clinical team and signpost patients to other services (eg pharmacy, hospital, council etc). That’s just a small selection of their tasks across a working day - it’s a full on job and can be very challenging. A tip from our fantastic reception team - if the hospital have organised a test, please contact the hospital department to chase up the result as don’t usually have the result to pass on. This also allows us to concentrate on other important work for our PMG patients.
> Patient Central (call handlers) are based at Cornlands Rd and take all inbound calls to the practice, this can be around 1000 calls a day. If a patient calls up to request an appointment, a paramedics calls about a patient or a relative has a query about how to request a home visit - our patient central team will take the details and try to ensure the patient’s query is dealt by the relevant team. They are a brilliant team - full of knowledge and are always trying to do the best for our patients. Mornings tend to be super busy, so if you have a query that isn’t urgent, their tip is to call later in the day.
#teamPMG would be lost without our front of house teams - thank you!!
