In just over 9 weeks we will be partnering once again with Heslington parkrun for a #parkrunpractice takeover. We hope to fill the roster with practice staff and patients. We have been lucky enough to run a couple of these events and they are always great fun… even in the torrential rain of March 2019! On 20th September Dr Abbie Brooks (GP partner) and Jenny Jackson (clinical pharmacist) will be enthusiastically run directing and organising the PMG team at parkrun. For those that are keen to get running, the NHS couch to 5k app is a great way to get started > https://www.nhs.uk/better-health/get-active/get-running-with-couch-to-5k/ This video sums up the joy of parkrun and the parkrun practice initiative: https://youtu.be/si2ng7yu23o?si=Np6mUo6v3RUNy4Mm ▶️ parkrun is a free, community event where you can walk, jog, run, volunteer or spectate/cheer ▶️ It is 5k and takes place every Saturday morning at 9am- we have three local events (Heslington, York (on the Knavesmire) and New Earswick ▶️ Junior parkrun is 2k, dedicated to 4-14 year olds and their families and you can join in every Sunday on the Knavesmire at 9am ▶️ No one is too slow for parkrun, there is no pressure at all to run and everyone is so friendly. If you are not sure about running/walking then join us to volunteer or cheer (or bake cakes?!)
Patient Participation
Patient Participation Group (PPG)
Thanks for showing an interest in our Patient Participation Group (PPG). The group is coordinated by our Customer Services Manager, Daniel Oldroyd with input from Caroline Alexander (Chief Operating Officer), Communications clinical lead GP partner, Dr Abbie Brooks and Complaints clinical lead GP Partner, Dr Tom France.
A PPG is a group of people who are patients of the surgery and want to help it work as well as it can for patients, clinicians and staff. The NHS requires every practice to have a PPG.
Our Mission Statement
We will work together with the mutual aim of improving the health and wellbeing of Priory patients, staff, and the local community. We will share ideas in an open, honest and respectful forum that encourages collaboration, empowerment and engagement. We believe that patients should be equal partners in their care and be able to help shape the services offered. We will work in a positive environment and focus our efforts on what can be done. We will help shape and positively influence how Priory delivers healthcare to its patients, the surgery environment, and the interaction between patient and surgery.
Our Values and Principles
- We will be respectful of the opinions and ideas of everyone.
- We will be positive and ensure everyone has a voice.
- We will not dwell on negatives, or use this forum to raise complaints.
- We will engage, listen and collaborate to make positive change.
- We will celebrate success, and work hard on any areas identified for improvement.
- Our group will be representative of, and celebrate, the diversity of our patient population.
What we do
We will engage with our patients and PPG in a variety of ways. We will obtain feedback about the services we deliver and how we can develop and improve in the future.

September 2024 we published our first Friends of Priory Newsletter -you can read this here. We would welcome anyone who wants to tell us more about their experience and needs from primary care. See our PPG meetings page for more information.
