Chicken pox is currently “doing the rounds” locally. It’s a useful time to share some self care tips about how to manage the symptoms at home as most children with chicken pox don’t need to see a GP. ⏺️ encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids - try ice lollies if your child is not drinking ⏺️ give paracetamol to help with any pain and discomfort - avoid ibuprofen ⏺️ use cooling creams or gels from a pharmacy ⏺️ speak to a pharmacist about using antihistamine medicine to help itching ⏺️ bathe in cool water and pat the skin dry (do not rub) If your child has chickenpox, they will need to stay off school/nursery until all the spots have formed a scab. This is usually 5 days after the spots first appeared. For further advice see the NHS website or contact NHS111. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/chickenpox/
New Patients
Register as a patient
If you are registered with PMG and move out of our practice boundary area (see map on homepage) you will be asked register elsewhere and removed from our list.
NHS England Out of Area (OOA) Scheme
PMG are not signed up to the NHS England Out of Area Scheme. Any patients formally registered on the scheme from before 2018 will have their status honoured. As per the directions of the OOA Scheme, a patient who needs access to home visiting/ district nurse visits/ community mental health team input or any other community service will need to register with their local practice.
PMG is a Safe Surgery - this is any GP practice which commits to taking steps to tackle the barriers faced by many migrants in accessing healthcare. At a minimum, this means declaring your practice a ‘Safe Surgery’ for everyone and ensuring that lack of ID or proof of address, immigration status or language are not barriers to patient registration. For more information visit this website or see the poster here.
Summary Care Record
The NHS in England is introducing the Summary Care Record, which will be used in emergency care situations. The record will contain information about any medicines you are taking, allergies you suffer from and any bad reactions to medicines you have had to ensure those caring for you have enough information to treat you safely. This information will be available to authorised health care staff providing your care anywhere in England.
We recommend that you read this information available from the NHS by visiting www.nhscarerecords.nhs.uk or by telephoning the helpline on 0300 123 3020.
Your decision is required when registering with PMG.
