Chicken pox is currently “doing the rounds” locally. It’s a useful time to share some self care tips about how to manage the symptoms at home as most children with chicken pox don’t need to see a GP. ⏺️ encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids - try ice lollies if your child is not drinking ⏺️ give paracetamol to help with any pain and discomfort - avoid ibuprofen ⏺️ use cooling creams or gels from a pharmacy ⏺️ speak to a pharmacist about using antihistamine medicine to help itching ⏺️ bathe in cool water and pat the skin dry (do not rub) If your child has chickenpox, they will need to stay off school/nursery until all the spots have formed a scab. This is usually 5 days after the spots first appeared. For further advice see the NHS website or contact NHS111. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/chickenpox/
Vaccinations and Immunisation
Vaccinations and Immunisations
Childhood Vaccinations
Our practice nurses are trained in giving childhood vaccinations, these start from 8 weeks and the schedule can be found here. You will be invited in for your baby’s first injections and the nurse will explain everything and put you at ease. We will explain when the next injections are due and you will be invited in when your child reaches the age of the next vaccinations.
If your child is due/overdue their vaccinations and you would like to arrange an appointment, you can use the prioryCARE form, choose the “Nurse appointment” tile and then click "Child vaccination” and you will be guided through a simple process to request an appointment. You can also call us on 01904 404100.
Some vaccinations e.g. nasal flu will be given in school by the school health nursing team.
Adult Vaccinations
Adults are currently offered a one off pneumococcal vaccine at age 65 and a flu vaccine every year from the age of 65 years. Patients are eligible for a shingles vaccine between the ages of 70-80 years. Patients with some long term conditions will be offered flu/pneumococcal and other vaccines before the age of 65 years where appropriate.
Pregnant women will be offered both whooping cough and flu vaccines during their pregnancy.
If you would like to find out if you are due a vaccine then please use the prioryCARE form and choose the “Nurse appointment” tile and then click “Vaccinations (aged 18+)” or call us on 01904 404100.
