We are very excited to announce that we will be undertaking some major changes at our Lavender Grove surgery and at Priory Medical Centre in Acomb. The Practice is substantially increasing its capacity to train new doctors and we are adding more space to the surgeries as a result.
We will also be taking the opportunity to create a completely new reception and waiting area at PMC that will be lighter, brighter and hopefully make your visit more enjoyable.
The Lavender Grove surgery will gain a new consulting room and a new Patient WC that will be easier to access.
It is anticipated that building works will start at Lavender Grove before the end of September and at PMC before the end of October. We will of course try to keep any disruption to a minimum but would ask for your patience as we create a state of the art facility for both our staff, and you, our patients.
The number of GP’s in the UK is set to fall quite dramatically over the next 5 to 10 years. A combination of retirements, part time working, and doctors combining GP work with other work will lead to a significant shortage. As a result the NHS is driving forward a program to encourage and train more people to become GP’s. As a training practice we recognise the importance of top quality training. 6 new doctors pass through PMG each year, however with the additional capacity we will be well placed to train up 11 doctors per year. Hopefully we will be doing our bit to protect the quality of General Practice in York for many years to come.
