June is #NationalScoliosisAwarenessMonth, scoliosis is when a spine twists and curves to the side. We do not know why scoliosis happens in some people and not in others. Some patients have family members with scoliosis. Scoliosis can occur at any age, but most commonly it develops during early adolescence. This is a period of rapid growth when a child’s body starts to grow and becomes more adult. Treatment varies and might include physiotherapy, a brace, or surgery. Sometimes no treatment at all is needed but the curve in the spine is monitored to see if it gets worse. To learn more about scoliosis: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/scoliosis/
